Outdoor Family Photography

If your kids love being tickled, cuddled, playing chasey, ring a ring a rosey and running around outside then they are going to LOVE coming along to an outdoor family shoot with me!

What time will our outdoor session be held?

The best time of day for an outdoor photoshoot is during golden hour, the hour before sunset. Or, if you are an early riser I’m happy to meet you at sunrise too!

Golden hour is the most flattering time of day for photos and is when you get that beautiful golden light that really make your photos super special.

I hold outdoor shoots throughout the year, although there’s a chance we might need to reschedule during colder months if it is raining.

Where will we go for our outdoor session?

I travel throughout Melbourne but some of my favourite locations include:

  • RJ Hamer Aboretum in Olinda

  • Williamstown Jawbone Marine Sanctuary

  • Ricketts Point, Beaumaris

  • Flinders, Mornington Peninsula

  • Royal Botanical Gardens, Melbourne

If there’s somewhere you love close to your home, let me know! I’m all ears.

How to make the session run smoothly

It’s definitely all about your kids during the session, ensuring they are having fun will mean it runs more smoothly for everyone. It’s best to keep it positive and follow their lead.

I might ask your child to give you a kiss or a cuddle and if they don’t want to, that’s okay! I’ll move on to the next thing and try again later. If your child does get a bit grumpy during the shoot, try and keep relaxed.

You might like to bring along some bribes - bribes work way better than threats. A lot of families will promise a special dinner or ice cream after shoot or some bring treats with them. I’d just recommend staying away from chocolate- it can get their clothes pretty messy!

If they have a special toy feel free to bring it along if you are happy to have it in the photos.

I’d also recommend you travel light and don’t bring a pram. I’ll have a backpack with me so I can carry your phone, keys, treats and small toys. You won’t want these things in photos. It can be a good idea to bring some tissues or baby wipes for snotty noses and messy faces!
